Renew a self-signed SSL Certificate in SBS 2008. If you have an expired SSL Certificate, you would want to renew it. This is done in the SBS Console. More specifically Fix My Network Wizard (FNCW). Running it will bring up potential network issues. Note that it will always find some but you need to ignore them and take care of the certificate only.

  1. Extremely helpful I would say. Far easier than other convoluted solutions offered elsewhere. Although it took three failed attempts where the wizard failed to renew the certificate. On the 4th run it worked.

  2. Didn’t work for me.

    “Self-Issued certificate is expired:

Cannot create a new certificate. Restart the Certificate Authority service, and then try again.”

Tried restarting PC and restarting Certificate Authority. No Change.

    • Hi Tom, this usually happens if your Exchange services are not running because it’s SBS and it tries to update the transport certificate too. If you are not using your Exchange and your services are disabled this is probably the cause. Try enabling them, start them and try renewing agaim. Hope it works
